Top Five Reptile Blogs you should Know

We’re all about sharing the love here at the Reptile Apartment Group. We decided we’d offer our favourite five reptile blogs we follow, these aren’t in any certain order but they’re all incredible reptile sites we enjoy. Drop by and say hello to the owners and tell them you heard of them here.

Dancing Snake Nature Photography

Dancing-snake-nature-photography-logoDancing Snake Nature Photography was part of our most recent panel discussion on reptile photography over in the Reptile Living Room Live! Dancing Snake Nature Photography is an incredible photo blog with a focus on not just nature but those inhabitants which often times go unnoticed in the rush of our digital age. The site is owned and operated by RC Clark and she has no qualms about getting dirty to get the very best photographs which she sometimes offers for sale.

That Reptile Blog

That-Reptile-Blog-LogoThat Reptile Blog is our hidden gem of herpetoculture as it’s part of That Pet Place website but the navigation to get there can be tricky. The direct link is provided above. You need to drop by here as it’s written by Frank Indiviglio who is the former keeper at Staten Island and Bronx Zoo he’s a well-respected zoologist and herpetologist. What makes That Reptile Blog special outside of Frank sharing a wonderful review of HerpHouse Mag is the fact he’s always reaching out to help anyone and everyone who has questions regarding herpetoculture and herpetology. When you talk with Frank it’s like having coffee with an old friend. This is what made us choose Frank as our favourite herpetoculture blog.

Wandering Herpetologist

The-Wandering-HerpetologistIf you ever wanted to or are currently thinking of getting into the field of herpetology then the site you need to pay attention to is The Wandering Herpetologist by Sara Viernum. She’s put together a deeply engaging blog exploring the various aspects of herpetology with an eye towards conservation. She has a team of folks over there publishing fairly regularly on topics of herpetology and conservation. She was also a past guest of Reptile Living Room as well as authoring several articles for the Reptile Apartment Group.

Wes James YouTube

Wes-James-YouTubeFor the vlog or video blog aspect of reptile websites we chose Wes James. Wes in his opening video just nails it. He explains about his interest and the even deeper aspect of why do people fear reptiles? He is openly against the continual fear mongering by not only mass media but even our own industry! I’d highly recommend watching “Getting Bitten, Repeatedly, for Science! The Myth of Aggressive Snakes”. Wes is obviously all about the love and respect of the animals that he encounters and doesn’t show boat or overact for the camera. You can find Wes and his work by using the link provided here.

European Amphibian & Reptile Blog

Matt-Wilson-The-European-Amphibian-Reptile-BlogFor our European folks or anyone interested in focusing on the European side of herpetology and herpetoculture we recommend The European Amphibian & Reptile Blog. With this site Matt Wilson covers many aspects of field work and herpetology as well as providing regular updates regarding conservation, local species, and even some of his own personal field work you can see his most recent works in the Cyclades Islands right now!

Each of these sites have a vast amount of knowledge to share in varying aspects of herpetoculture and herpetology. Within their pages you will discover hours of not just entertaining reading; you’ll probably learn a few things as well. As far as how to keep up with all the various sites out there who publish reptile related content we’d recommend trying out The Reptile Report. Think of them as your news feed for reptiles if you will. Without a doubt no single site can possibly catch all the reptile news but they do a good job there of bringing the most popular content to one central location. Do you have a site we should include? Let us know over on our Fan page!
