Roy Blanchette Jr. joins the Reptile Apartment Group as Assistant Editor!
Perhaps my earliest childhood memory is being in the local public library, listening to a man talk about the behemoth snake he had coiled around his shoulders. When it was my turn, I sat in the seat and he draped this green giant around my shoulders. The strength of this animal was incredible! The slow, methodical movements were almost hypnotic. It was then I knew. I was hooked, and so began my fascination with snakes.
Nearly 40 years later, I keep a collection of three different boa species; Brazilian Rainbow, Surinamese True Red-Tail and Madagascan Ground Boas, and have recently witnessed by first litters of baby boas. The fascination I have for these animals I have is the strongest it’s ever been, and watching my younger animals grow and produce more incredible boas is something I am truly looking forward to for the very near future.
Living my life with Spina Bifida, I am used to receiving attention, whether it be positive motivation encouraging me to do things most thought I could not do, or negative looks from others who simply do not understand what makes others different from themselves. Being in the reptile culture, I now thrive on that attention in spreading the messages about what amazing animals snakes and reptiles are, and how we need to stand up and continue to fight for our right to keep these incredible creatures. I have partnered with both USARK and US Herp Alliance, assisting with their Social Media goals, and helping dispel the rumors and false “facts” that are threatening our hobby today.
I bring over a decade of writing skills, most recently used in Customer Service for Fortune 500 company. I have written to countless customers to help explain any billing charges and resolve other concerns they have, whether it be technical or service-related. It is emblazoned into my mind to read, reread, and read again to ensure your piece is perfect. When you press that “Send” key and reply to an angry customer, you need to ensure that every word, letter and punctuation mark are perfect. Because of this extensive training, I have a vast knowledge of conveying thoughts clearly and concisely, as I have always been held accountable for resolving the customers’ issues after only one interaction.
I am truly looking forward to combining my passions for writing and for reptiles into one, rewarding and fulfilling hobby here with Reptile Apartment.
