Tom Williams has been an excellent addition to the Reptile Apartment Group. Here he is in his own words.

“I’ll be honest, I can’t 100% for certain say where my love for reptiles came from. I can’t define one pivotal moment in my life that stands out and shouts “YOU LOVE REPTILES.” Maybe it was the weekend visits with my parents to the local pet shop where a young Tom would get lost in the reptile room whilst mum and dad would pet the rabbits and grab the cat food! Maybe it was the stories of the Adders on the local country park and the tales of their venomous traits. Or maybe it was just something that I was born with – a love of reptiles and in fact all animals, wild or captive.

I first dipped my toes into the reptile keeping hobby aged around 14 when I purchased my first Leopard Gecko from a Reptile Show that was held 5 minutes from my childhood home in Leicester, UK. Sadly this show is no longer held in Leicester although many more have taken its place all around the UK. Since that day I have been hooked and have looked after, cared for and learned from many different species of snake, lizard, amphibian and  invertebrate. Right now I am being taught the tricks of the herpetological world by 3 Royal Pythons Python regius,4Leopard Geckos Eublepharis macularius, 2 Corn snakes Elaphe guttata, 5 Fire Bellied ToadsBombina orientalis and 1 African Pixie Bullfrog Pyxicephalus adspersus.

One of my favourite parts of being involved in the reptile world is meeting other people who share the passion with me. Including the people that I meet on line that have the best knowledge and are always willing to lend a helping hand and those that you meet at the reptile shows. The reptile shows being the one thing that I get stupidly excited about every year and will be writing about for Reptile Apartment throughout the coming season!”
