It’s often said
‘If you want something done right, then do it yourself.’
I did that with Reptile Apartment just approaching four years now. Doing it yourself is an easy thing to do in our personal lives. When it comes to business however the DIY method would leave some of us in the fetal position drooling in the corner from all the stress involved. This of course still happens but not as often when you have a partner to share the journey with.
Over a decade ago, I began my own personal journey into the realm of herpetoculture. I’ve done some work over those years that you may have seen in a magazine, book, or even here. Something that’s pained me greatly throughout my tenure is this. You always see the stores getting called out for their lack of knowledge when it comes to the employees.
To remedy this, I packed up everything and moved as east on the North American continent as I could after meeting Rebecca my now fiancée. How does me moving to New Brunswick remedy the issue you ask? Rebecca and I are doing what we always dreamed of doing. We are…
Reptile Apartment will be as of the Fall of 2013 the ONLY exclusive reptile and herpetoculture supply store in the Maritimes. We are not releasing the location yet except to say; after an enormous amount of research, maddening nights (some of which I was in the fetal position drooling), and enough meetings over coffee to keep Juan Valdez’s family working for the next few generations. We’ve done it! We now own the building and property and renovations are underway.
Now then, to all of you and you know who you are who’ve stood by my side over the past years through all of the ups and downs I deeply thank you and I cherish you all dearly. Now then, for every single person out there who didn’t believe or told me I couldn’t. Guess what?
(Please insert your best F you line here followed by the sound of my laughter)
Now over to Becky,
When I met John, my life before him seemed so insignificant and boring. Like a story unfolding, we all go through life adding to our character and developing who we are as people.
In what I like to call “phase 2” of my life, John and I have developed our ideas and dreams to fruition. We’ve spent tireless days and nights pooling together our ideas (which are so similar its creepy sometimes). We are proud to say we have made it happen! Coming this fall, our dream of having the only exclusive reptile and supply store on the East Coast of Canada is happening!
We’ve acquired a great property and are in the process of renovating. We are excited to be able to provide our cumulative knowledge, experience and personalities to operating our “dream store”. We will carry the best captive bred reptiles and only quality imported specimens. Gone will be the days where you have to go to the local pet shop to get your feeders, and in the process witness neglect, misinformation, and the dreaded
“sorry we are out of stock of that type of bug”.
We will pride ourselves on properly housing and displaying our available reptiles snakes turtles and amphibians as well.
As we progress we will keep our followers, friends and colleagues up to date. We can’t wait to see you on opening day! Thank you again to all of those who have encouraged and believed in our dreams, it means more than any of you will ever know.
