Zilla Log Landing Review | Private Release Preview
No matter how many times I say it, it still rings true; Zilla Rocks!
This last year, I was voted Author of the Year by The Reptile Apartment Tribe (audience) of over 100,000 readers. One of the prizes for winning such an honor was something unexpected. A product so new, in fact, it isn’t in the stores yet. After my personal experience these will be flying off the shelves.
Zilla Log Landing
Zilla’s new product is called the Log Landing, the name alone speaking volumes about the detailed sculpting to create an innovative and realistic looking platform for basking turtles. The look is 100% realistic all the way around, where the top and sides are all sculpted unlike other products where only certain sides are sculpted. Also worth noting is its usefulness in shallower water. The log opens up, with a base on the bottom, and the log floating above it. It’s the perfect dimension for an approximately 40 gallon tank with a red-eared slider (Trachemys scripta elegans) or other smaller aquatic turtles.
The log measures approx 16 inches long, and about 5-6 inches wide, with a level cut away basking platform on the top. The end is angled nicely for ease of climbing out, with lots of grooves for claws to grab a hold of to climb out of the water. Because the log is realistic, cleaning will be a little more than just wiping off. A good dish scrubbing-brush will take care of any of the normal algae that will grow on any structure in water.
The example I got only opens to a height of 7 1/2 inches, the base in my opinion is not heavy enough because if the water is any deeper than 6 inches it will cause the whole thing to float. I would recommend to the design team to either add weight to the base, or have it where it can be filled with sand, which will help with stability. Also, I would suggest adding another section to the lift area, so it would work for deeper water. I presented my thoughts to Zilla, and the response wasn’t the common, generic response from large corporations and/or known individuals. Zilla said the suggestions I brought up are going to be considered for the next production run.
Zilla is on the cutting edge. New tank designs, new realistic furnishings, and new innovations as they look for ways to further the reptile community. And while the web site is: http://www.zilla-rules.com/ I say Zilla Rocks!
