World Lizard Day is always celebrated on the fourteenth day of August. The very first celebration of World Lizard Day is unclear, but it’s celebrated by herpetoculturists, conservationists, and herpetologists worldwide. Pet shops also celebrate World Lizard Day by educating their customers about these wonderful exotic pets. The Delaware Museum of Natural History celebrates the day with “Lunch with Lizards”. Pre-registration is required for this event and will be serving a beverage, pizza, and desert; along with having all reptilian events. The Caldwell Zoo celebrates the day with Leaping Lizards on August 16, 2014 between 1:30-4:00pm. If you live near Troy, NY be sure to stop by The Children’s Museum of Science & Technology. Their event is for children and adults and will have cool lizards to learn about and also lizard crafts to make.
Social media is sure to make a day out of it. Reptile Livingroom is dedicating their show to lizards with David’s Fine Geckos as a guest. They will be interviewing him on everything Leopard Gecko. World Wildlife Fund and International Union for Conservation of Nature have yet to recognize World Lizard Day, but that shouldn’t stop others from paying homage to our four-legged cold-blooded friends.
